A Tropical Getaway in Downtown LA

December 1st, 2009

picture-12.pngWith the abundance of restaurants in Downtown Los Angeles, it is easy to find anything your taste buds desire. We have it all, whether it’s a burger, a salad or one of my personal favorites, pad thai, I can get anything I want during lunchtime.

But something was missing. I yearned to find a place to take me back to my mother’s kitchen. I dreamed of finding a place where they served coxinhas, croquetes, and Brazilian style rice and beans. I thought I would never find a place close to work until I stumbled upon Wood Spoon!

A small restaurant nestled on the corner of 9th street and Main, the restaurant made me feel as if I was walking into my grandmother’s kitchen. The owner/chef/hostess Natalia treated me as if I was a regular even though it was my first time there and best of all, they had all the foods I missed the most.

I indulged in some croquetes and coxinhas along with a calabreza salad and some chicken, rice, beans and collard greens. To drink, I had coconut juice inside a coconut. The whole time I was eating I swore I was in Brazil!

I also had the chance to speak to Natalia. She has no website or advertising but people seem to be interested in trying Brazilian food.  The word-of -mouth has definitely worked for her Wood Spoon has celebrated its third anniversary and Natalia plans on opening a second location sometime next year!

We’ve Moved!

November 3rd, 2009

We’ve finally relocated to our new office on 600 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 1520!

The move was very challenging but very successful, thanks to Keisha Brown who put in the time and effort to oversee and manage multiple aspects of the moving process. We’d also like to thank Earl Mercadel and Charlene Amaya for working long and hard during moving day! Additional thanks go out to Sandra Bonito and Ericka Avila for their help during several stages of the move.

Since we relocated physically, we also decided to work on making some major changes online. Stay tuned to see what we’re up to.

LAGRANT COMMUNICATIONS announces another integral move in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Juana M. Véliz, managing director of the Hispanic Practice, will be headquartered out of the firm’s Dallas location beginning August 3, 2009.

Véliz serves as the managing director of LAGRANT COMMUNICATIONS’ Hispanic Practice and provides strategic direction for clients such as Harley-Davidson Motor Company, H&R Block and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation among others. This move will allow the Hispanic Practice to better serve the needs of current and future clients who aim to reach the U.S. Hispanic market in a strategic manner.

“We are very excited to expand our Hispanic Practice into the Dallas office,” stated president/CEO of LAGRANT COMMUNICATIONS, Mr. Kim L. Hunter. “As our Dallas office just celebrated its two-year anniversary, this strategic move will open new opportunities for the firm as well as its current clients.”

As a native of Dallas, Véliz looks forward to be returning to her hometown. Prior to joining LAGRANT COMMUNICATIONS, Véliz served as the cultural director of SOMOS Beauty, a direct selling company, where she developed and executed culturally relevant strategies to create a client-base and build community relations. She also worked as a consultant for Iconoculture, Inc., a consumer research and advisory services firm, where she conducted Hispanic consumer insight research. Her extensive background in Hispanic-focused research, particularly as it relates to various lifestyles, demographics and acculturation levels, has been key in developing and implementing strategic plans for the firm’s clients. Véliz has also been featured in several publications such as Diversity Inc. Magazine and the renowned Lonely Planet Encounter series.

“As an agency that services clients on a national level, our grassroots outreach is also important and Dallas is a dynamic market,” noted Véliz. “Broadening our presence into a top Latino market will allow us to continue to deliver comprehensive solutions for our clients.”

The Dallas office currently houses LAGRANT COMMUNICATIONS’ Travel & Tourism Practice that provides services for American Airlines and the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation.
